Firefighters Perform Dramatic Rescue in Greenbelt

A car overturned in a drainage culvert on the inner-loop of the Beltway early Saturday morning.

Prince George’s County firefighters performed a dramatic rescue early Saturday morning after a car went off the roadway down a steep embankment on the the inner-loop of the Beltway, according to fire department spokesperson Mark Brady.

The car left the roadway just before Kenilworth Avenue in Greenbelt for an unknown reason and drove down the embankment, overturning in a drainage culvert approximately 25-feet below grade, according to Brady. The heavy-duty rescue squad from Berwyn Heights responded and performed a high angle rescue and extrication.

The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to Brady.
