Dude, Where's my Airbag? Rash of Car Thefts and more Greenbelt Crime

Is your airbag missing? You’re not alone. According to the Greenbelt Police Department, there was a string of airbag thefts from vehicles in Old Towne on August 10.

Police say there is little to residents can do to protect themselves from these types of thefts; they ask residents to report suspicious activity to 301-474-7200.

Robbery

A woman was approached by someone she knew on the 100 block of Westway on August 10 at about 8 p.m. The robber assaulted her and stole some of her belongings. Charges are pending.  

Driving under the influence/Driving while impaired

On August 10 at about 2:30 a.m., a 28-year-old Hyattsville man was arrested at the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Old Calvert Road. He faces DUI, DWI and other charges.

On August 10 at about 11:22 a.m. a 34-year-old Hyattsville man was arrested near the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Greenbelt Road. He was faces DUI, DWI and other charges.

On August 10 at about 11:57 p.m. a 34-year-old Hyattsville man was arrested at the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Greenbelt Road. He faces DUI, DWI and other charges.

On August 11 at about 1:21 a.m. a 52-year-old Riverdale man was arrested at the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Greenbelt Road. He faces DUI, DWI and other charges. 

On August 11 at about 1:36 a.m. a 34-year-old Gaithersburg man was arrested at the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Greenbelt Road. He faces DUI, DWI and other charges.

Robbery

Police say a robber approached a person on August 8 at about 5:50 p.m. on Breezewood Drive at Springhill Lane. The robber assaulted the victim, then stole some of he belongings. The robber is described as a black woman, 30 – 40 years old, 5-foot-4-inches tall, and about 160 pounds. She has black hair and was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. She left in a silver, four-door car.

Vandalism

A window was broken in the 6100 block of Breezewood Court on August 12 at about 1 a.m.

Drug paraphernalia arrest

A 19-year-old Greenbelt man was arrested in the 7600 block of Greenbelt Road. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and is pending a trial.

Trespassing

Police say a juvenile was trespassing on private property and resisted arrest on August 10 at about 11:15 p.m. in the 7600 block of Greenbelt Road. The juvenile was released to a guardian’s custody pending action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

Vehicle crimes – citywide

A 2011 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee with Maryland tags was reported stolen to the Prince George’s County Police. It was recovered on August 8 – no one has been arrested.

A spare key was stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Lakeside Drive on August 8.

A 2013 gray Yamaha motorcycle with Maryland tags was stolen on August 9 by two men driving a white Ford van with the tags DC EJ3554.

A Maryland tag that was reported stolen to the Anne Arundel County Police was recovered on August 9 from an unoccupied vehicle in the 7800 block of Somerset Court.  No one has been arrested.

A red moped that was reported stolen to the Prince George’s Police Department was recovered on August 9 in the 6200 block of Springhill Drive.

A car stereo was stolen from a vehicle in the 9100 block of Springhill Lane on August 10.

Driver’s side airbags were stolen from four vehicles on the 100 block of Westway on August 10.

A driver’s side airbag was stolen from a vehicle in the unit block of Ridge Road on August 10.

A yellow Bash motor scooter that was reported stolen to the Prince George’s County Police was recovered on August 12 in the unit block of Gardenway Road. No one has been arrested.

A 2013 red, white and black Suzuki motorcycle with Maryland tags was stolen from the 400 block of Ridge Road on August 14.

A vehicle in the 6000 block of Greenbelt Road was scratched by someone who the vehicle’s owner knew on August 13.
