County Crime Watch: Police-Involved Shooting, Family Dollar and Liquor Stores Robbed

Highlights from police reports in Prince George's County. The following information was supplied by the Prince George's County Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police-Involved Shooting in Temple Hills

According to police reports, on April 12 at approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to 3107 Good Hope Avenue for a burglary in progress. On arrival, officers were immediately confronted by a man fleeing the scene. The suspect has since been identified as Joseph Barrington Halsey, 23, of the 2000 block of Addison Road South, District Heights, MD.

Halsey ran from the officers, hid behind a parked car and then reappeared, acting in a bizarre manner, according to police. When approached by the officers, he acted as if he was pulling a gun from his waistband, police stated. The officers believed he had a gun, according to the release. According to the report, one of the two officers fired shots. None of the rounds struck the suspect. As Halsey was taken into custody, he stated that he wished the police would have killed him because he did not want to go back to jail, according to police.

Upon further investigation inside the apartment, police found a man stabbed numerous times. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The exact nature of the relationship is unclear but police said the men know each other.

Halsey was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Police say the officer that fired shots has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.

Oxon Hill Liquor Store Subjected to Armed Robbery

Prince George’s County Police Department are looking for the public's help in  identifying the suspects shown in the attached surveillance photographs.

On March 20, at approximately 2:35 p.m., the suspects committed an armed robbery at the Tops Liquor Store located at 4422 Wheeler Road, Oxon Hill, MD, according to police.

Family Dollar Robbed

Prince George’s County Police Department, are also looking for the public's help to identify the suspect shown in the attached surveillance photographs.

On April 15, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the suspect committed a robbery at the Family Dollar located at 5927 Martin Luther King Hwy, Seat Pleasant, Maryland, police reports stated.

Anyone with information that may assist in this either of the robbery investigations is asked to call CRIME SOLVERS at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or the CID-Robbery Unit at 301-772-4905 as soon as possible. Please refer to (case number 12-106-2706 for the Family Dollar robbery) or (case number 12-080-1473 for the Oxon Hill liquor store robbery). Whenever information is given to the Prince George’s County Crime Solvers Line, you do not have to leave your name. A CASH REWARD OF UP TO $1000.00 is being offered for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect responsible for either of these robberies.
