CK One and Done: PG Police Sniff Out Perfume Theft Ring
For two District of Columbia women, their scented trail of theft has finally been sniffed out by the Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD), with groundwork laid by the Glenarden Police Department.
The PGPD arrested 19-year old Darquesha Shelby Wilkinson and 23-year old Latasha Renee Mungo for their involvement in an organized theft ring where thousands of dollars worth of stolen assorted perfumes were recovered, according to police.
Loss prevention officers at JC Penney spotted Wilkinson and Mungo stealing assorted perfumes on on May 8, in the store on the 9000 block of McHugh Drive in Glenarden, according to police. They left the store, however, without being detained.
Later in the same day, Wilkinson and Mungo re-entered the same JC Penney and began stealing more assorted perfumes, according to police. Members from loss prevention stopped them and recovered an estimated $2,338 worth of assorted perfumes, police report.
An additional $2,590 worth assorted perfumes were recovered from a vehicle used in the thefts, according to police.
The investigation uncovered that Wilkinson and Mungo were a part of an organized theft ring from the Washington, D.C. area, police said. The group travels throughout Maryland and Virginia to steal assorted perfumes and other related items from JC Penney stores, according to police.
According to police reports, Wilkinson, of the 1200 block of Canal Street in southwest Washington, D.C., and Mungo, of the 1100 block of K Street in southeast Washington, D.C., were arrested and have been remanded to the Department of Corrections. Both are being charged with theft, police say. The investigation is ongoing.
Fatal Motorcycle -Tractor Trailer Crash in Clinton
According to police reports, Prince George's County police were on the scene of a fatal vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:19 p.m. on Sunday in the 8900 block of Woodyard Road in Clinton. The crash involves a motorcycle and tractor trailer. The police say the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on the scene. No other injuries reported. The Prince George's County Collision Analysis Unit (CARU) will conduct the investigation.
Suspects Wanted in String of Armed Commercial Robberies
The PGPD is investigating a string of commercial armed robberies in the county over the weekend. The same two suspects are armed with semi-automatic handguns and have been entering commercial establishments wearing masks, according to police.
The suspects have been parking a newer model gray Dodge Charger on the side or to the rear of the targeted locations.
The Metropolitan Police Department experienced a similar string of robberies, believed to be committed by the same suspects, prior to the Prince George's robberies, according to the PGPD. The robbery details are as follows:
- Shell Gas Station on the 13800 block of Old Annapolis Road, Bowie (May 11 at 10:25 p.m.)
- Safeway Gas Station on the 12400 block of Fairwood Parkway, Glenn Dale (May 12 at 9:47 p.m.)
- Chesapeake Market on the 12300 block of Annapolis Road, Glenn Dale (May 13 at 4 a.m.)
- McDonalds on the 20 block of Ritchie Road, Capitol Heights (May 12 at 11:53 p.m.)
- 7-Eleven on the 7400 block of Central Avenue, Capitol Heights (May 13 at 2:29 a.m.)
- 7- Eleven on the 22 block of Watkins Park Drive, Kettering (May 13 at 3:15 a.m.)
