Beltsville Firefighters Rescue Kitten Inside Car Engine Compartment

A kitten set out on a journey on Columbus Day and landed in a new world.

A man driving his car out of a shop in Beltsville on Monday stopped suddenly when he heard a kitten meowing inside it. Firefighters from the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department came to the rescue around 1:50 p.m., according to Firefighter Josh Stuhler.

To draw the kitten out, firefighters tapped on the bottom of car, creating noise until it moved into an area where they could reach for it, Stuhler said.

On the day we celebrate Columbus' voyage to a new world, this young feline has made a journey of its own. And the vehicle it picked to begin its trip in was not too shabby—a BMW.

Now the brown and white kitten is hanging out with the firefighters in the new world of the fire station. But it is about to go on another voyage: Stuhler said he thinks one of the firefighters is going to give it to his brother.

The firefighters haven't given their rescue kitten a name yet, but Stuhler says it is in good shape and looks to be about 3 weeks old.

Have any good suggestions for a name? Let us know in the comments!

Name ideas? How about Beamer if it's a boy (it's not always easy to tell the sex of young kittens).

Did they check for a "tiger in the tank", too? Regardless of gender, it should be named "Sparkplug".
