Frugal Family

This week's Frugal Family includes a free picnic with our neighbors, learning new home improvement skills, taking some deep breaths and deep bends, and relaxing with free movies.

Let’s start with Home Depot’s Free Workshops for kids and adults. The kid workshops (1st Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) usually involve a make-and-take craft.  Saturday, Oct. 1 is the next class, the craft is building and painting a fire rescue helicopter. The adult sessions cover topics such as painting, holiday crafts and outdoor home projects. You can pre-register for the classes and it’s recommended as the kids’ workshops fill up fast!

Continuing with home improvement freebies, GHI is now offering 10 Free Leaf Bags per household to help clean up those leaves that will be falling and covering your lawn.

Speaking of GHI, the annual GHI Members Picnic  will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the lots behind the GHI offices on Hamilton Place. This is a great opportunity to socialize with your neighbors, enjoy free food and maybe win a door prize! Please register in advance.

Maybe you will see your neighbors at 6:30 p.m. on Monday nights, when you can relax and stretch those limbs at a drop-in Donation Based Yoga Class held at Greenbelt Community Church. Suggested donation is $10 per class. And all levels are welcome!

Finally, after all that stretching, how about some free Blockbuster DVD rentals? You can check out movies for free (no membership required!) at any Blockbuster Express kiosk (closest one at Greenbelt Coop) using these 8 codes (good for $1 rentals, they expire 9/30!)
