Great Escape: Volunteer Together

For this week's Great Escape, try escaping the daily routine to volunteer with your children.

Greenbelt Elementary School is hosting a St. Patrick's Day dinner this coming Thursday and is still in need of volunteers for 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. shift and the 7:30 p.m. to 8:30p.m.  shift, according the school's Yahoo listerv.

I'll never forget helping my mother with our church's Giving Tree around Christmas time each year. Sorting gifts in church for less fortunate boys and girls really helped to give me a new perspective on other people's lives, especially when I was asking for toys and these children needed socks and other essentials.

Serving other people with your children can help give them new perspective of their world and give you something new to bond over with them. It will be a life lesson in patience and politeness and if all goes well, they'll take that home with them.
