Mishkan Torah Presents Program On “Jewish Influence on Pop Music”

The Adult Education Committee at Mishkan Torah Synagogue
is proud to announce a program on a fascinating topic, “Jewish 
Influence on Pop Music” on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 10:30 
am. The program will be presented by Mishkan Torah member 
Stephen Kramer. 

 Steve Kramer is an alumnus of the University of Maryland, from which he has received both BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering. He spent 36 years working as an electronic engineer for the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland. While there, he served tours of duty at the Pentagon and also attended the National Defense University, from which he received an MS degree in National Resource Strategy in 1999. 

Steve Kramer brings a lifetime interest to his topic. He has collected jazz and big band recordings and videos since his childhood. He is the co-author of Gene Krupa and his Orchestra, published by Jazz Discographies Unlimited, and has participated in the production of Compact Discs by Dick Haymes and Buddy Clark—both prominent vocalists of the 1940s.

Most recently, he has conducted classes on American Popular Song at the University of Maryland's Legacy College and has supplied music for local community theater stage productions of The Women, Moon Over Buffalo, Born Yesterday, and Arsenic And Old Lace. He is currently an adjunct faculty member of Prince George's Community College where he continues to present classes on American Popular Song through the College's SAGE program.
