TWO EXTRAORDINARY EVENTS AT MISHKAN TORAH JANUARY 25 AND 26

Mishan Torah's annual Tu B'Shevat Seder will start at 6:00 PM on January 25. On Jan. 26, there will be a special service featuring chanting, singing, and poetry in honor of Shabbat Shira.

The evening of Friday, January 25 and the morning of Saturday, January 26 will feature twoextraordinary events at Mishkan Torah, marking highlights of the Jewish Calendar. The first such occasion is the annual Tu B’Shevat Seder, which will start at 6:00 PM the night of Friday, January 25.  This event commemorates the annual New Year of the Trees. Dr. Seuss’ Lorax has nothing on the Jewish people, who have been speaking for the trees for over 3,000 years.

The Tu B’Shevat Seder, which will be led by Mishkan Torah Education Director Bret Goldstein, will celebrate the wonder of trees with tasting first fruits; the obligatory four cups of wine (or grape juice!); songs; and delightful company. The evening will also include a pot luck dinner. All attendees are asked to bring a dairy or meatless dish, but anything commercially prepared must have a kosher hechsher.

This joyous event is free and open to the entire community, not just Mishkan Torah Members.  However, reservations are required. You may make reservations by calling Mishkan Torah at 301-474-4223 or by mail at 10 Ridge Road, Greenbelt, Maryland 20770 or by sending an email to ChildrensEd@MishkanTorah.org.

The next morning, January 26, there will be a special Shabbat service starting at 9:30 for Shabbat Shira, which marks the annual reading of the exultant Song in the Book of Exodus upon thecrossing of the Red Sea into freedom after the liberation from Egyptian slavery. Rabbinical Student Saul Oresky and Cantor Yael Fischman will lead a creative service featuring chanting, singing, poetry, andguided relaxation in honor of the day. The Mishkan Torah Choir will also appear to lead certain of thescheduled songs. The service is open to non-members of Mishkan Torah and the whole community, without charge or need for reservations. We hope you can join us for one or both of these events.
