Help the Woodlands Ecology on Earth Day

Meet friends and celebrate the GHI woodlands on Earth Day.

The Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) Woodlands Committee is inviting Greenbelters of all ages to meet friends and help out the woodlands on Saturday in celebration of Earth Day.

"It's going to be a day of service to help restore the ecology of the GHI woodlands," said Matt Berres, GHI staff liaison to the committee.

The Committee is meeting along Ridge Road, between the 58 and 62 courts, and will work from 9 a.m. until noon. Volunteers don't need to stay the whole time, though — they may help out for a short time or stay for the duration.

The plan is to trim vines and branches back from the trail on GHI property and perform invasive plant removal.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, long sleeves, as well as hats and gloves to protect against possible bugs, sticker bushes or poison ivy.

Some tools and gloves will be available for volunteers to use, but if they have their own, they are encouraged to bring them. Berres said tools such as hand clippers and garden loppers would be useful.

For those who participate, "It's a chance to come out and meet friends and neighbors and celebrate the woodlands and GHI," Berres said.
