Tour of Solar & Green Homes

This year Greenbelt residents are participating as never before in the national Tour of Solar & Green Homes.  Six homeowners are opening their homes to the public to demonstrate the solar energy and green features of their homes. The Tour is from 11 am to 5 pm on October 6 and 7.   The Greenbelt homes, featuring solar electricity, solar water heating, passive solar space heating and cooling, and solar cooking, are viewable on Sunday this year.

C’mon over and talk to the homeowners.  In addition to showing off their solar energy systems, they will be explaining a host of innovative sustainable features, including a geothermal heating and cooling system, ductless heat pumps, home energy monitoring systems, Solatube tubular skylights, edible landscaping, dual-flush toilets, LED lighting, and rain barrels.  Brochures listing around 70 solar homes on the tour are available for $5, and are free for students, at the Greenbelt Co-op supermarket.   Or they can be downloaded for free at www.solartour.org. The brochure lists the day and the addresses of the homes participating on the Tour.
