Two women fought in the street on Crescent Road in front of the Greenbelt Municipal Building following the Labor Day Parade Sunday, according to Greenbelt Police spokesperson Officer Kelly Lawson.
"One woman had another woman on the ground and was beating her and pulling out her hair to the accompaniment of much screaming and yelling," eyewitness Bill Cornett wrote on Greenbelters Yahoo group.
The two women were mothers of Boys and Girls Club Raiders and they were angry for whatever reason, according to Linda Ivy, president of the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival.
"By chance they ended up right in front of a Greenbelt Police cruiser, and numerous officers were on the scene almost immediately," according to Cornett. He said it took several officers to separate the women and reported seeing other people being pulled off the pile as well.
Cornett said one woman was taken away in handcuffs, and he heard a young girl wearing a Raiders uniform crying, worried that her mother was going to prison.
Both women were charged with disorderly conduct and released on citation, according to Lawson, who reported they had minor injuries such as scrapes.
