Announcement: Cardio, Aquacize, and Jump Yourself to Health During Active Aging Week

The city is hosting many free activities for individuals of all ages during this week.

 

ACTIVE AGING WEEK

Join Greenbelt in celebrating the International Council on Active Aging’s Active Aging Week, Sept. 23 through Sept. 29. The city is hosting many free activities for individuals of all ages during this week.

Try out:

  • The Holy Cross exercise class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, or The Fit ‘N Fun Cardio class
  • Attend the Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center, and participate in some free aquacize classes
  • Attend the NEW Journey to Health fair at Greenbriar Condominiums on Sept. 27, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Participate in some free workouts at Curves
  • Try out Double Dutch

Dance with the Springhill Lake Elementary Students: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Sept. 24 through 26, dance with the Springhill Lake Elementary students as you all learn a new routine. On Thursday afternoon at 1:30, dance with the students for the school. Please call 240-542-2054 if you are interested in this program. There are many students who will enjoy interacting with you as you learn together.

Volksmarch: On Monday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., register at the Community Center, room 103 for the Volksmarch. Walkers will choose from a 10k (6.2 miles) or a 5k (3.2 miles) walk around Greenbelt, including many of the historic locations. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and all walkers must have a start card.

NIA (Neuromuscular Integrative Action): On Tuesday, September 25 from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Community Center, room 202, experience NIA (Neuromuscular Integrative Action) with Ms. Catherine (Cat) Reeser. NIA is a sensory-based movement lifestyle that leads to health, wellness and fitness. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. It is very popular with baby boomer age group.

Free Health Screenings: On Thursday, September 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Greenbriar Terrace room experience the Journeys to Health program. Obtain health screenings on the following: Blood pressure, peripheral arterial disease and diabetes. Learn about balance and exercises you can do to improve your balance and learn how to calculate your BMI. Some hands-on activities will also be available.

Ageless Grace, Seated Movement Practice: And finally at Explorations Unlimited on Friday, Sept. 29 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. hear Ms. Cat Reeser present on Ageless Grace, a seated movement practice that counteracts the signs of aging. Ageless Grace is gentle, fun, and social. It’s never too late to begin. It’s never too early to start! The Ageless Grace program can be done by almost anyone of any age or ability.
