Greenbelt Mini Maker Faire

http://club125.com/ The Maker Faire is coming to Greenbelt! The first annual Greenbelt Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 on the plaza at Roosevelt Center in historic Old Greenbelt.

The Call for Makers, Performers, and Crafters is open now through April 1. Any individuals, kids or adults, groups, or businesses interested in participating in this inaugural event should complete a simple application by the end of March. There is no cost to participate or attend the faire.The public can get tickets for valuable door prizes.

The Greenbelt Mini Maker Faire takes after its enormous parent, Maker Faire, with its flagship events in San Francisco and New York.The Greenbelt Mini Maker Faire will be a smaller, community-focused event, but will follow the Maker Faire model of celebrating do-it-yourselfcreativity and tinkering.

Greenbelt is the quintessential Maker community, having been itself made by a transformation from tobacco fields into a public cooperative community as a New Deal Era project of the U.S. Resettlement Administration.Today, just over 75 years later, Greenbelt is home to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center inspiring the faire's tag line:

"From New Deal to New Worlds... Greenbelt Makes a Difference"

Hosted by Club125, the Greenbelt Makerspace, the Greenbelt Mini Maker Faire is a family-friendly celebration featuring educational exhibits and hands-on activities in culinary arts, music and entertainment, microelectronics, and robotics, in addition to general science, arts and crafts. Early submissions include demonstrations of vertical gardening, the science of felting, local art, and an exciting exhibit of STEM education by a group from Northrop Grumman Undersea Systems.
