WHO: Ten T.G.I. Friday’s bartenders from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Georgia will come together in Greenbelt, MD to compete for the title of World’s Best Bartender in the divisional finals of the 2012 T.G.I. Friday’s World Bartender Championship. The winner of this competition, now in its 22nd year, will advance to the final championship, which will be held in Dallas in March 2013.
WHAT: The World Bartender Championship, which started as a one-off challenge between two bartenders, today welcomes more than 8,000 bartenders around the world in a premier competition widely acknowledged among bartenders as the toughest international bartending competition. Finalists are selected based on their knowledge of the bar, the flavor of their drinks and their ‘flairtending’ skills. Finalists embody the energetic Friday’s Feeling every day of the week and represent the rich history of the Friday’s bar.
In addition, this competition has helped raise $25,000 for the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation (MJYF). Founded in 1992 by the late Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, the MJYF has helped train hundreds of young people to become leaders for tomorrow. Participating high school students learn skills and principles of leadership, critical thinking, entrepreneurship, community service, and how to prepare for their continued education and careers.
