Week in Review: 'Bulldogs' Impact Franklin Park, Trio of Raiders College Bound and Excited Egg Hunters

A look back on the week's news for April 24-30.

We began the week by reporting on the changes afoot at Franklin Park. Fieldstone Properties closed on the townhome rental complex last fall. Franklin Park's "bulldog" team — devoted staff — has been focused on change. Units are being renovated, and crime is on the decline. Stay tuned for the second installment of this story.

Greenbelt's Easter Egg was a big draw for families around the county. Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 24, the hunt was held on Easter Monday under beautiful, blue skies. Patch captured the excitement of the event, including an entertaining act by Greg May.

On Wednesday, Patch reported that few residents challenged Greenbelt's fiscal year 2012 budget at the city council meeting and public hearing on April 26. The fiscal year 2012 budget amounts to some $25.4 million, representing a 2.1 percent increase over 2011.

Patch learned that T.G.I. Friday's is a hit among young adults. The hot spot is bustling, full of life and energy, thanks in part to its loyal patrons. We also discovered that a new restaurant is opening on Greenbelt Road in late May — Joe's Crab Shack. Check back later in the week for an update.

In a two-part story, Patch reported on the city council's first quarterly work session on April 28 to analyze the bus transit changes that took effect on Dec. 20, 2010. Mayor Judith “J” Davis told transit representatives that she was disappointed with their unsuccessful efforts to get the word out about the bus changes that took effect last December.

We ended our week on a high note: Three more Eleanor Roosevelt seniors will be heading to college in the fall. A trio of football players will attend junior college programs.

Happy Sunday!
