Power Outage in Greenbelt

Some city facilities and parts of the city are without power as storms move through the area.

Heavy rain fell in Greenbelt throughout the day as a storm moved through the area, power outages eventually followed.

At about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, David Moran, Assistant City Manager, said power was out in some city facilities, citing the Municipal Building, the police station and the Community Center, which have some backup power in place.

Moran said Lakeside and Belle Point were also without power and judging from a Pepco map, he suspected other parts of the city were as well.

It was too soon to tell if the power outage would last long enough to cause meeting cancellations tonight, Moran said.

Power was also out at the Greenbelt Library at about 2:20 p.m. today, a date several

Professor Yoshiro Morita, as well as architect Hiroko Ryu and Morita's graduate student Ryohei Hashida were in the Tugwell Room when the outage occurred. Fortunately, the library still had some light due to backup power.
