Patch Picks: Librarian's Suggestion

In honor of National Read Across America Day, Patch Picks enlisted the help of a local librarian to choose their favorite children's books.

For National Read Across American Day and Dr. Seuss's belated birthday, Patch asked Elizabeth Wilkins, Librarian III at the Greenbelt Branch, to share her favorite children's books.

  1. Harold and the Purple Crayon, Crockett Johnson – I always thought it was very enchanting and one of the first books that had characters that were inclusive.
  2. The Lightning Thief, Rick Riordan – It’s for school-aged kids, has strong male and female characters and uses Greek mythology.
  3. Dinosaur Stomp, Paul Strickland – Everyone likes dinosaurs, plus it's a pop-up book.
  4. Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp, Carol Diggory Shields – They have hoedown out in the woods.
  5. The Baby Beebee Bird, Diane Redfield Massie – It’s fun and the little bird keeps everyone up at the zoo because he has a different sleep cycle. Great for reading aloud.
  6. Daisy-Head Mayzie, Dr. Seuss - Wilkins' favorite Dr. Seuss book.

All of these books can be found at the local , just ask for them at the front.
