NASA Goddard Shows Images of Arizona Fires

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on Aqua satellite acquired these images of the fires near the Arizona and New Mexico border.

The MODIS Rapid Response Team at NASA Goddard produced this image of the fires and smoke in the southeast border between New Mexico and Arizona, acquired on June 20, at 4:50 p.m. EDT by The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite. Areas with active fires appear as red dots and represent high surface area temperatures, NASA stated.

Driven by winds and dry conditions, the Wallow fire has emerged as the largest in Arizona state history. The fire covers 527,774 acres acres total, with 56 percent of it being contained as of June 20 at 6 p.m., according to the Incident Information System (InciWeb)
