Lights Out for Earth Hour Participants

The World Wildlife Foundation is sponsoring the 4th Annual Earth Hour Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and many local businesses are participating.

Last year 128 countries participated in Earth Hour and this year several local and nearby businesses are turning their lights out too.

Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million people turned off their lights for one hour to combat climate change. Now the World Wildlife Foundation event has almost 5 million supporters and a global network of more than 100 countries.

“We’ve been participating every year that they’ve been doing Earth Hour,” Chef Karim said. “Our customers wanted to participate and so we support that.”

Other nearby places participating are the National Cathedral, the Baltimore City Fire Department Headquarters, Baltimore City Hall, Baltimore National Aquarium and the Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital.
