High Wind Warning in Prince George's County

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning starting at 2 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory and high wind warning for Prince George’s County and much of Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

Gusts between 50 to 60 mph are expected in Prince George’s County, where the wind advisory took effect at 11 a.m. and the high wind warning is in effect from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Winds this strong that can bring down branches and power lines and make driving difficult. So it’s a good idea to secure loose objects outside and bring in chairs and tables.

Pepco is already preparing for the flood of calls that could come in pertaining to the wind.

"We've already had our call center on 12-hour shifts and they are prepared to work around the clock on customer calls," Pepco media representative Clay Anderson said.

He said that they have 650 employees working on storm duty and that includes 250 tree-trimming personel that are already working today and prepared to move to storm duty immediately, which means they'll move from routing tree-trimming to removing limbs from power lines.
