Back-to-School Fashion Show Greenbelt Style

resembled the high-fashion city of Milian on Saturday at its annual Back-to-School Fashion Show.

The bass bumped throughout center court as models, ranging in age from 3 to 50, strode down the runway exuding style and charisma.

“All of the models are from the area. It’s more of a community thing,” Janubi Devendra, director of marketing for Quantum Companies, said.

The two-hour show featured clothing and accessories from a variety of stores in the mall, like Shoppers World and Kids Go Round. Styles included everything from casual to dressy to cultural trends.

Between acts, the mall gave away big item prizes through raffles and a dance off — ranging from shoes to Redskins tickets with parking passes.

As the music began echoing through mall corridors, the audience surged to hundreds of spectators.

“We left the theater and saw the set up and were interested in what was going on,” Loretta Clay said.

Denise Jordan knew what was going on from the start and had placed herself firmly in the front row by the runway. She wasn't about to miss seeing her daughter, Tijuana, an incoming freshman at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, who had returned to model a second time for the show.

The 28 models were all smiles as they lined up to walk on stage.

“The people that do the show are very helpful and supportive” model Alicia Clement said. “I’ve always been interested in modeling."

Eight-year-old, Syed Khurram, was walking in the mall with his mother when he saw a sign for a fashion show and told her he’d like to give it a try. When the big day came, he walked the runway with pizazz, spinning his necklace around and smiling as he reached the end.

The show ended with a cultural bang, as models showed off numbers from the Middle East and Africa, given to the show by Gift Gallery & Gallery Africa. Bright colors, long flowing dresses and beads took center stage, wowing models and audience members alike.
