BLOG: Adopt a Friend - Odin, The Magical Cane Corso

Adopt a Friend - "ODIN" the magical Cane Corse with a heart of gold.

Odin The Magical Cane Corso (A373626)

A good samaritan found Odin roaming the streets and decided to put him in their yard until a Prince George's Animal Control Officer could pick him up.  The officer took him straight to the vet because he was obviously malnourished, had lost a lot of his hair all over his body and had 4 abscesses around his neck.  Once he was treated and started to show recovery he was transported to the shelter in Upper Marlboro in the hopes of finding a furever home.

ASK FOR "ODIN" (A373626)

MYTH #1:  My flea prevention doesn't work.

FACT:  Flea prevention DOES WORK but it will only kill the fleas ON YOUR PET, not the fleas in your home.  It can't stop newly-hatched fleas in your home from jumping on your pet.  You MUST treat your home & yard.

MYTH #2:  I don't have fleas in my home!

FACT:  Yes, you probably do!  Fleas lay eggs on your pet and then as your pet moves around, the eggs fall off into your home, carpeting, and pet bedding.  There, the eggs hatch and jump back on your pet.  You may never see the flea eggs, larvae, and pupae in your home until the newly-hatched adult fleas emerge and re-infest your pet.

MYTH #3:  I already treated my home so the fleas are gone.

FACT:  Once is NOT enough!  Flea eggs hatch in 3-4 weeks and the cocoon encasing them is totally resistent to insecticide, so you MUST treat your home & yard AGAIN after 3-4 weeks to eliminate them.  Some home & yard sprays can kill the flea eggs but not the flea pupae.  For severe infestations, use foggers which continue to kill flea eggs for several months.

MYTH #4:  Flea prevention applied to the skin is waterproof so I can wash my pet now.

FACT:  Wait 24 hours after application before you wash your pet.

The Flea Breakdown:

5% adult fleas - on pets

10% flea cocoons - carpet/home

35% flea larvae - carpet/home

50% flea eggs - pets/carpet/home
