Zumba Fitness Starts Tonight at Angel's Touch

Angel's Touch is offering a zumba fitness party tonight, replete with Latin music and dance.

Earlier this month on May 1, Angel's Touch took Pleasant Touch's spot in the Greenbelt Roosevelt Center. Losing no time, new owner Mary Anne Fonka is planning the zumba fitness kickoff class tonight at 7:30 p.m. Though Fonka considers it more of a party than an exercise class.

"This is really fun, that's why they call it a party," Fonka explained. "Because everybody's dancing, it doesn't feel like exercise." The upbeat music with a Latin flare add to the atmosphere.

The zumba curious can just check it out for one session. It's $7 for a single class, but Angel's Touch also offers a monthly pass for those who want a discount package.

The party's instructor, Asia Field, hails from New York City, where she was first trained as a zumba instructor and also taught classes for several years, before moving to Maryland at the beginning of this year, Fonka said.

Tonight's class is for beginners. It's also for people trying to lose weight or who want to stay in shape.

With cries of "No pain, no gain," the west has long equated getting in shape with grueling workouts and agony. But Zumba says not so, fun and fitness can go together.

Although it's a party, Fonka advises zumba participants to dress like they're headed to an aerobics class. The exercise may be fun, but, ultimately, it's a workout.
