Colby Red Featured at Co-op's Wine Tasting Inspired by Boy with Heart Disease

The Colby Red in the co-op's Friday tasting was inspired by a young boy who underwent two heart surgeries before he was 10-years old.

Profits from the Colby Red wine featured at Friday night's wine tasting will go to help heart research, in honor of the winemaker Daryl Groom's son, Colby, who was born with a serious heart condition.

Colby Groom underwent two back to back heart surgeries before he was 10-years old. Afterward his father, Daryl Groom, and Colby decided to team up to make a red wine — and to donate profits to organizations that promote heart health.

The co-op will feature the Colby Red and three additional wines at Friday night's tasting from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The other selections include Ruta 22 Malbec, Casal Garcia Vinho Verde and Tomaiolo Chianti Classico.

Customers will receive $1 off bottles of the wines offered at the tasting.

The co-ops own oenophile, John Mealey, selected Friday's wine samplings. Mealey said he enjoys the co-ops wine tastings because he likes meeting new people, tasting wine and trying to pair food with wine.
