Power Outage Shuts Down Most of Roosevelt Center

Most stores in Roosevelt Center were without power late Wednesday.

The lights and power were out late Wednesday in most stores in Roosevelt Center in Greenbelt. The Co-op and Greenbelt Aquatic and Fitness Center were exceptions.

Pepco arrived on site to make repairs at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday,  according to Courtney Nagas, a Pepco spokesperson. Around seven Pepco trucks were still lining the area of Roosevelt Center by 8:30 p.m.

"The crew has to locate where the fault is first underground, before they can make repairs," Nagas said. The problem was an underground cable fault that leads back to a transformer, she explained.

It took crews awhile to find where the fault was, but they did locate it, according to Nagas. Once they fix the problem, crews will restore power, she reported, expected about 2 a.m. Thursday.

At around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, a gaping opening lay uncovered and surrounded by caution tape beside the Beijing of Greenbelt Restaurant, while Pepco employees were at work in and near a manhole across from the Centerway Mini Market.
