'National Bike to Work Day' 2011

Prince George's County is offering pit stops and encouragement to bicyclers who buckle up their helmets today and go for a ride.

Two-wheel commuters can take advantage of Prince George's County's pit stops on May 20 and celebrate "Natitional Bke to Work Day." Trek to work with an experienced commuter convoy plus get food and drinks -- and hear live entertainment, compliments of Prince George's County.

If you pass by these areas on your way to work, check them out. Pit stops include Oxon Hill at the start of the Woodrow Wilson Trail, Hyattsville's Magruder Park as well as Prince George's County's Adelphi Road Branch Library, College Park's City Hall, and Bowie Old Town, as well as Bowie New Town Center.

If there's no stop near you, pack your own food and drink, or invite friends and neighbors to join you in some healthy, enviro-friendly fun.

"That's an excellent idea," Springhill Lake Recreation Department Coordinator Brian Butler said. "It helps the environment to take a day off from the car."

Ultimately, it's just one day a year. But watch out, you might find you like it!
