The Greenbelt East Advisory Coalition met Thursday to discuss Labor Day, the GEAC picnic and snow problems to come.

Members of the Greenbelt East Advisory Coalition got down to business at the Thursday to review past events and prepare for winter storms.

Here are some highlights of the meeting:

  • According to treasurer Charlene MacAdams, the profit from the was about $170, plans are being made to continue this picnic next year.
  • The 75th Greenbelt Anniversary group is still looking for more volunteers and so is the Greenbelt Middle School Task Force.
  • Snow removal was a hot topic and members asked the city council members that were present if there is an ordinance that could be passed to force cars parked on narrow streets to use only one side during a snow emergency so plows can actually clear the streets.
  • The meet the candidates forum will happen again next October and another forum for meeting legislators will happen in November.
  • Finally, there was a complaint about police response in Greenbelt East and the want to remain anonymous when reporting a crime. Mac Adams plans to write a letter to the police and the GEAC will write a separate one outlining the complaint and plan for action.

The next GEAC meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Hunting Ridge, all residents of Greenbelt East are welcome to attend.
