Crab Lovers Line Up for Joe's Crab Shack Opening

Locals waited overnight to be among the first 100 patrons at the restaurant's opening Tuesday.

Nearly 100 people waited in line overnight for the grand opening of Joe’s Crab Shack in Beltway Plaza on Tuesday. Early goers had high hopes of receiving a voucher for a free snow crab bucket every month for a year, which was announced in a media release by Ignite Restaurant Group, the parent company of Greenbelt's newest restaurant.

Jackie Hamil and five of her Greenbelt friends were first in line.

“We got here around 10 p.m. Monday night for the 11 a.m. Tuesday opening of Joe’s," Hamil said. "We played games throughout the night — just had a great time waiting for our free crabs."

Jim Mazany, senior vice president and CEO for Joes’s Crab Shack, explained the first restaurant opened in Houston, Texas in 1991.

Joe's Crab Shack is open Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight.; Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
