What’s Up With the Green Line: Weekend of April 15 through 17

A look at what you need to know about Metro this weekend.

The Green Line will be operating on its regular schedule this weekend. But Green Line riders who plan to transfer to the Orange, Red or Blue Lines should be aware of significant work going on this weekend, which will mean delays and in some cases — no train service.

On the Orange Line, there will be no train service between the Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton stations and the five stations between — Minnesota Ave, Deanwood, Cheverly, Landover and New Carrollton stations will be closed from 8 p.m., Friday, April 15, to closing on Sunday, April 17.

To help riders get through the work zone, Metro reports that they will operate free shuttle buses around the station closures. Metro recommends that customers traveling through the work zone build an extra 40 minutes into their travel plans.

On the Red Line, platform repairs at the White Flint station may mean delays due to single-tracking trains operating in both directions on the Red Line between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Twinbrook stations.

Red Line trains will also share one track between the New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U and Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood stations due to upgrades to the aerial structure.

On the Blue Line, Metro will replace rail switches at the Van Dorn Street station. A special shuttle train will be running on one track between the Franconia-Springfield and King Street stations, which will mean significant delays. Metro encourages customers who use those stations to commute to Huntington and use the Yellow Line as an alternate.
