Utopia Film Festival Announces Winners

The weekend-long festival announces winners in several categories.

Sunday marked the end of the 6th annual Utopia Film Festival with an awards ceremony and dinner at the New Deal Café.

The festival awarded films and filmmakers in four categories; Utopian Visions, "Ellie" Award for Originality, Best Short Film and Young Filmmaker. The results and explanations of the categories are as follows:

Utopian Visions

Recognizes films which do an outstanding job of telling the stories of individuals and communities trying to make a difference for a better world in keeping with the utopian values of Greenbelt.

Winner – "Crossing Borders"
Honorable Mentions –"The Glass House," "Walk Right In"

"Ellie" Award for Originality

Named for First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt who was instrumental in the origins of Greenbelt, this award was established in 2009 in memory of Utopia Film Festival Founding Committee Member Linda Carter to honor films which reflect originality in the way she did.

Winner – "Unraveling Michelle"

Best Short Film

Honoring the festival's outstanding films under 30 minutes.

Winner – "Be Good to Eddie Lee"
Honorable Mention – "Corner Plot," "The Unnatural"

Young Filmmaker

Recognizing a promising new filmmaker 18 years or younger.

Winner - Drew Morton, "Goldsmith for No Pity"
