Sheila Maffay-Tuthill on "The Conspirator"
Sheila gives "The Conspirator" three popcorn pops out of four.
Sheila Maffay-Tuthill says: “The Conspirator” is a really gripping historical drama based on the events surrounding President Lincoln's assassination, in particular the trial of Mary Suratt-the only female charged as an accomplice. A confessed history devotee (all my life!), I would recommend the film even to those who yawned through their American history class. Robert Redford directed and produced this film with a great attention to period details and a wonderful capturing of the mood and feelings of the time. The pacing is just right and the topic really timely for several reasons: the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War is this year and questions about suspended rights in a time of war are being discussed in the U.S. today.
We all know the ending that is coming, but the journey is thought-provoking and well worthwhile. See it while you can.
