Offerings at Churches

A look at the deals that can be found at nearby churches, from thrift stores to free meals.

This week I wanted to share some wonderful bargain stores with you where the whole family can enjoy finding treasures.

1.
Deal: There’s a toy room, clothes room, kitchen/catch all room, and the volunteers are so helpful. One year I got all my Christmas gifts there!
Good Through: Thursdays and the first Saturday of each month

2.  Holy Cross Lutheran Church Thrift Store on Greenbelt Road.
Deal: Not only do they have awesome yard sales in the summer, but on Thursday afternoons their bursting at the seams thrift store is open. You’ll find clothes, DVDs and toys.
Good Through: Thursday afternoons

3. Free DVDs in Hyattsville
Deal: How about DVD rentals for free? Walk in and it’s like entering a Blockbuster. Truly! There’s a kids’ section, foreign films, TV series, documentaries, you get the idea.
Good Through: Unlimited

4. Valentine’s Spaghetti Dinner at University Park Church of the Brethren
Deal: The event is free but donations are encouraged. Having attended this many times over the years I highly recommend the vegetarian spaghetti!! Yummmy! And the decorations are so charming. A nice, frugal way to celebrate with friends and family.
Good Through: Feb. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m

I’d love to hear any ideas from you-I’m the single mom of a 13-year-old son who is on the cusp of deciding whether mom time is “cool” or not…

Thanks for reading and look for our romantic ways to get away in the Great Escape later today.

Next week: Superheroes and classic Fisher Price.
