Join In Cajun Music Jam at New Deal

Musicians gather together at the New Deal Café to enjoy a Louisiana-style Cajun jam.

It's the fourth Wednesday at the , and that means time for the Cajun Music Jam at 7 p.m.

Anyone who wants to can sit in on the jam, where Cajun music flies from fiddles, guitars, accordions, voices, harmonicas and more. The Cajun Music Jam welcomes musicians, singers and dancers to join in a night of spontaneous entertainment.

Rooted in the balladic tradition of the French-speaking Acadians from Canada, it offers French music with themes of heartbreak, love and home, along with fast waltzes and two-step dances.

“I came and saw people jamming, and I was like, ‘I need to get my instrument!’” said Rebecca Lemus after her first visit. “It was great. I didn’t know how hardcore this jam session was… Here I was, fudging the melody, but it was okay!”

Read about Lemus' experience in Nancy Pham's report on last summer.
