Hanukkah In Full Swing

Hanukkah began Wednesday, but the festival of lights only lasts eight days, so below is a guide to all of the Hanukkah events around town.

will hold their Light One Candle event this Saturday at 6 p.m. Saturday marks the fourth day of Hanukkah so Mishkan Torah invites local Jewish families to bring and light their Hanukkiyah, the candelabrum with nine candleholders not to be confused with a menorah, which has seven candleholders.

There will also be a light meal complete with made-from-scratch latkes, a traditional potato pancake. The children of Mishkan Torah will provide the entertainment through song and skits with a special "History of Jewish Music" performance.

Tickets for the event are $8 for adults and teens, $5 for pre-B'nai Mitzvah and children in pre-kindergarten are free. The deadline to RSVP is today and can be done by calling the offices at 301-474-4223 or registering online.

Another nearby option is to celebrate Hanukkah Shabbat Friday with University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh at the Ben and Esther Rosenbloom Center for Jewish Life on Campus Maryland Hillel on 7612 Mowatt Lane in College Park.

The lineup for the evening's events is president Loh will speak at 7 p.m., followed by an a cappella performance, student reception with the president and a dinner at 8:15 p.m.
