Greenbelt Arts Center Kicks Off Season

The very first play of the season, "Volpone," opens Sept. 24.

The Greenbelt Arts Center kicks off it 31st season Sept. 24 with a new play, "Volpone."

"Volpone" is a work by Ben Johnson about a rich recluse without any heirs. The main character, Volpone pretends to fall deathly ill and convinces Mosca, his servant, to get people to give him gifts hoping to become his sole heir. Director Bill Jones has modernized this adaptation without compromising the poetry Johnson intended.

The performance will run Fridays and Saturdays from Sept. 24 – Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, Oct. 3-10 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors.

The Oct. 2 performance will be sign-interpreted for the hearing impaired.

Auditions for the drama, "Doubt," by John Patrick Shanley will be held at the Greenbelt Arts Center Oct. 18-19.
