Sarah Saviet - violin concert at Mishkan Torah

Violin virtuoso Sarah Saviet (of Cheverly) and pianist Tal-Haim Samnon will transform Mishkan Torah into a major league concert venue on March 13, 2011 at two in the afternoon.  Sarah will perform a challenging program of violin favorites with international pianist Tal-Haim at a matinee performance. The gala afternoon will conclude with light refreshments, and may also include a surprise or two in Mishkan Torah tradition. It is an event not to be missed!

Sarah is currently a senior at Indiana University majoring in musical performance as a student of Jorja Fleezanis. A National Merit Scholar in high school, Sarah was one of only 24 highly select entering freshmen to be named a Wells Scholar upon entering Indiana in 2007. Sarah has won a number of musical awards and accolades for her ability. Prior to entering Indiana, Sarah studied music at Peabody Preparatory, where she won the full concerto competition. She also won the MTNA National String Competition, ASTA String Competition,Friday Morning Music Club Competition, and the Washington Performing Arts Society’s Feder Competition.

Tal-Haim Samnon was born in Tel Aviv in 1986. From the age of six till eighteen he took piano lessons with Mrs. Hanna Shalgi of the Givatayim Music Conservatory. Since then he has been studying with Prof. Arie Vardi for six years at the Buchman- Mehta school of Music in Tel Aviv University where he did his B.A. He currently studies with Prof. Evelyne Brancart at the Jacobs School of Music in Indiana University, Bloomington. Tal graduated from the Thelma- Yellin High School for the Performing Arts and served in the Israeli Army as "distinguished musician," enabling him to pursue his musical career uninterrupted.

Since the age of seven he has performed many concerts in Israel and in Europe: Germany, Austria, France, Scotland, Holland, Switzerland, Portugal and more. He often performs for the Israeli "voice of music" channel, both in live broadcasts and in recordings, and has also recorded for the Dutch radio.


Tal has been a recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarships since 1998, as well as the "Ronen foundation" scholarships and "Buchman-Heyman foundation" scholarship.
He has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras: the Thelma-Yellin Orchestra, Kibbutzim Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Israeli Chamber Orchestra, and the Rishon Lezion Orchestra. Tal was a soloist at a festive gala concert with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro Zubin Mehta, marking the opening of the Buchman Mehta College of Music in Tel-Aviv.
Tal has been a winner of many competitions including the Turgeman competition, Paul Ben Haim competition, Highlights, Ariana Katz, Maurice M. Clairmont, Young Artist, Lions Israel, Tel Hai International Master Classes Competition, and the Zubin Mehta Piano Competition
