Free Opera: Reading Lolita in Tehran

The bestselling book, Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi, comes to the stage. The new opera, by University of Maryland doctoral student Elisabeth Mehl, is based on Nafisi's experiences secretly teaching Western literature to a group of female students after the Iranian Revolution. The work reveals the grim realities of revolutionary Iran but also illuminates the power of literature to provide universal insights into the human condition.
