Editor's Picks For The Weekend

Music at New Deal Café, nature hikes and picnics.

Hopefully Thursday's rain does not carry over into the weekend because there are a lot of great outdoor activities taking place in town that you might want to check out.

Tonight, starting at 3:30 p.m. the Eleanor Roosevelt High School Raiders will take on the High Point High Eagles on their home turf, so come out and support the currently undefeated Raiders.

On Saturday the Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) Woodlands Committee is hosting a fall nature hike on Hamilton trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The group will meet at the GHI Administration building on Hamilton Place. Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothes, as the hike will take place in rain or shine.

For some indoor entertainment, check out what the New Deal Café is serving this weekend; Jazz. Friday night New Deal will host two acts, John Guernsey from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and These Days, an acoustic, blues and jazz band from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday, stop by for Bruce Kritt on classical guitar from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. then stick around for another bought of jazz piano with John Guensey from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Then end your evening with Jelly Roll Mortals acoustic-pop-rock from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Finally, Sunday, check out Not2Cool Jazz Trio's classical lute sounds from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then there will be a kid's open mic from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and later on in the evening Dar Stellabotta from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Also for Sunday, Greenbelt East Advisory Coalition is hosting its first annual picnic at Schrom Hills park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
