Post 'Maury': Carter Says 'I'll Take the Punches'

Plus size Greenbelter Tracey Carter talks about being slammed with criticism after "Maury."

Nude model and Greenbelt resident Tracey Carter got hit with a flurry of criticism after her . Her ongoing love of vinyl and thigh-highs did not do her any favors among her detractors.

Carter, who emerged from being an abused woman and becoming abusive herself, now holds her head high. It was actually 9/11 that made her hit bottom. When she saw people jumping from the windows of the World Trade Center, Carter said she felt God telling her they didn't have another chance at life but she did.

Her modeling began around the same time period because she started to love herself, she said.

Part of going forward for Carter is liberating other plus size women to see themselves as beautiful. She said women come to her all the time ashamed of how they look and afraid to even let their husbands see them without clothes.

An unstoppable force, Carter seeks these women out. If they stay away too long from talking with her on her Facebook pages, such as her Alvarez Self Love site, she'll go and find them to see if they're okay.

She also finds plus-size woman when she's just walking down the street. "Has anyone told you, you're beautiful today," she calls out. If they say no, Carter tells them — "You are beautiful!"

That's why It wasn't just about getting a photo of her in clothes that her son, Anthony, could feel comfortable posting on Facebook. It was about promoting plus-size women, she said.

Some people didn't see it that way and slammed her with accusations following the show's airing. Carter said she didn't respond in a like manner. They may be a size 3 or 4, she said, but what do they think about themselves? Most people who can bring themselves to say such ugly things, don't really love themselves, she explained, saying she refused to respond by trying to bring them down too.

Carter said these same people are cruel to her other plus-size queens. She tries to build them up because people at work try to put them down and treat them bad because of their weight.

"I can tolerate being beat up for my women," she said. "Bring it on."

Along with harsh comments, Carter said her e-mail blew up with notes from women who were inspired and loved seeing a plus-size woman who was confident and sexy and who did her nails.

She wants to get the word out to plus-size women, "We are beautiful, we are here, it's our time," she said. Knowing she encouraged some of them made it all worth it — "I'll take the punches," she said.
