"I did not get elected to sit behind a desk and not act when there is something I feel strongly about," as he reassured the crowd that getting benefits for them was one of his main goals. MacFarlane does not wish to see any person, sexuality excluded, to be put at any disadvantage. He said he doesn't like to see same-sex couples being treated as total strangers under the law, and therefore having to sell their homes due to tax liability in the event of the death of a partner. "I never wants to see that happen again," he said.
The group questioned MacFarlance on titles and taxes as well as the future of gay marriage across the state, while MacFarlane responded, "We may have lost the marriage bill this year; but we're not backing down!"
