Get Out Greenbelt: NASA Model Rocket Launches, Johnny Seaton Performance and Artful Afternoons

Looking for some exciting things to do this weekend around Greenbelt, MD? Check out some of the fun things going on around the city.

NASA Goddard Model Rocket Launches at Visitor Center

  • Where:  Goddard Space Flight Center, 8800 Greenbelt Rd, Greenbelt
  • When:  Sunday, April 7, 1 p.m.
  • Description:  Anyone can fly at the Goddard model rocket launches and there are no costs or fees to participate. Rockets, motors and supplies are available at the nearby Goddard Gift Shop and participants can even get rocket construction and launch tips from our on-site experts on launch day!
  • Cost:  Free

Johnny Seaton performs at Greenbelt American Legion

  • Where:  American Legion Post 136, 6900 Greenbelt Rd, Greenbelt
  • When:  Saturday, April 6, 6:30 p.m.
  • Description:  Johnny Seaton and his band Bad Behavior will be performing the music of Elvis at the Greenbelt American Legion Post 136.  The Sons of the American Legion are sponsoring this event and proceeds benefit SAL projects.
  • Cost:  $20

  • When:  Sunday, April 7, 1 p.m.
  • Description:  Puppet Cabaret (3 p.m.) featuring Leila Ghaznavi’s moving and musical “Beyond The Light.”  Before the show, create colorful patterns using fresh fruits and veggies in a Printmaking Workshop (1-3 p.m.) with artist in residence Nora Simon.
  • Cost:  Free

 DC Fire Hockey Charity Tournament

  • Where:  The Gardens Ice House, 13800 Old Gunpowder Rd, Laurel
  • When:  Friday, April 5, 2 -10 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Description:  Annual DC Fire Charity Hockey Tournament.
  • Cost: Free

DC GlassWorks and Sculpture Studios Spring Open House

  • Where:  DC Glassworks and Sculpture Studios, 5346 46th Ave, Hyattsville
  • When: Saturday, April 6, 3:30 p.m.
  • Description:  DC GlassWorks and Sculpture Studios Spring
    Open House. There will be food, beer and folks blowing glass from 3:30 to 8:00
    p.m. on Saturday, April 6.
  • Cost: Free

Tavern Night

  • Where:  Riversdale House Museum, 4811 Riverdale Rd, Riverdale
  • When:  Saturday, April 6, 8 p.m.
  • Description:  Entertainment by the 1812 sailors of the Ship's Company and tavern-style food and beverages.
  • Cost: $25

Sport4All spring programs

  • Where:  City of Bowie Gymnasium, 4100 Northview Dr, Bowie
  • When:  Saturday, April 6, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Description:  Sport4All offers non-league sport and active games for ages 3 to 12.  The focus is on skill-building in a playful environment.  All games are played within the practice group. Visit the website, www.sport4all.org, for more information and registration, or call 301-262-5050.
