From Foam to Stone, Parke Crescent Gets a Facelift

Styrofoam isn't just for theater sets anymore.

Parke Crescent Apartments in Greenbelt, Maryland is being renovated. Friday, it's getting masonry-like beautification work. Aleka Williams, Parke Crescent property manager, said next they'll get new balconies.

When I think foam construction, I think community theater or sets in black and white films. Forget today's movies, where we just slap worlds together with 0's and 1's.

But construction sites like eHowhome and wiseGEEK show foam is not just for make believe, highlighting different aspects from energy conservation to its lightweight and low price—and it's masonry look and feel.
