Artful Afternoon: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Adults and kids got creative to celebrate spring and the Greenbelt Farmers Market.

The monthly at the Greenbelt Community Center paid homage to creepy (and not so creepy) crawly things, farms and healthy, fresh foods on Sunday.

Adults and kids crafted bug sculptures and pendants with artists-in-residence Tom Baker and Karen Arrington using reclaimed hardware and found objects; created farm- and food-inspired laminated placemats with Greenbelt Farmers Market board members; and made pickle puppets with Nana Projects to use in a 3 p.m. performance, "How to Grow a Pickle."

"It's great seeing so many families here with their kids. It's definitely getting their creativity going," said Jennifer Errick, Greenbelt Farmers Market treasurer.

Both Errick and fellow board member, Joe Gareri, were on hand to cultivate interest in the Greenbelt Farmers Market, which reopens on Mother's Day, May 8.
