These are user-submitted letters to be used for community discussion.Local residents will gather on Saturday, April 14, to take part in an unprecedented week-long nationwide progressive mobilization called 99% Spring to take back the country for the 99%. Local training is to take place in Greenbelt from 1 to 4:15 p.m. in the Greenbelt Community Center, Room 202. At the meeting, the activists will be trained in non-violent, direct action and will be connected with others in their community to take back Greenbelt for the 99%. A visitor related the following story to me a few minutes ago:"As I was approaching the post office at about 7 this evening, I saw a pile of feathers in the street behind a fast moving car — and a single goose on the sidewalk staring bewildered at another goose staggering in the middle of Ora Glen Drive. The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) takes seriously its responsibility to always put customers first. In that spirit, we want to present aspects and facts about the GHI situation that were not included in the original story. WSSC representatives began meeting with representatives of the Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) in 2007 to discuss how best to proactively replace aging water mains in the area. Those are the lines that generally run underneath the streets. In addition, WSSC planned to replace the service lines, which are the connecting lines from the water main to the house. …
There is a potentially contentious vote at Monday’s council meeting on who should be designated Greenbelt’s representative on the Transportation Planning Board (TPB). The board is the statutory federal metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Since the creation of the Council of Governments (COG), the TPB has been housed in COG. All member jurisdictions of the Council of Governments have an opportunity to designate a representative.
