GHI To Hold Annual Membership Meeting Thursday

Take a look at what GHI has planned for its annual membership meeting Thursday night.

Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) will hold its annual membership meeting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Greenbelt Community Center auditorium. Note, bylaws changes and a members' petition are up for discussion. Look for a Patch article on the bylaws changes to be posted Thursday afternoon. The proposed changes will address requirements for GHI contracts and clarify the issue of living trusts. The members' petition will seek to create a smoke-free row of townhomes on the 13 Court of Ridge Road, and open up that possibility for other members who want to follow suit. EVENT: Estate Planning Seminar in Greenbelt on Friday

Learn about avoiding probate costs and minimizing estate taxes, tax-wise use of trusts, gift annuities and other estate planning issues.

By Barbara Havekost The Greenbelt Community Foundation will sponsor an estate planning seminar on Friday, May 18 at 2 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the second floor of the Greenbelt Municipal Building in Greenbelt, MD. This seminar, presented by Thomas Downs, Attorney at Law, will discuss how to avoid probate costs and minimize estate taxes, how to create your legacy through tax-wise use of trusts, gift annuities and other planned giving options.  Discussion will include the current federal and Maryland estate tax laws and the new Maryland power of attorney law. This seminar is free of charge. All attendees will receive a seminar handout and a complimentary one-hour private consultation with Mr. Downs.

Curves Offers Free 30-Day Memberships During National Women's Health Week

Curves is offering free memberships and fitness assessments in Greenbelt, MD, through Friday.

Curves of Greenbelt, MD, invites women to join the fitness club for a week-long open house to celebrate National Women's Health Week, running through Friday, May 18. Interested women can get a free 30-day membership, Curves says. Women will also get free tours of the club and free fitness assessments, including body fat analysis, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements, and waist circumference measurements, according to Curves. Council To Address CSX Intermodal Facility and Parke Crescent's Continued Operation

City Council will take up issues incluidng: a waiver for Parke Crescent Apartment, the location of the CSX Intermodal Facility, proposed improvements at Greenbelt Middle School and Springhill Lake Elementary.

Greenbelt City Council will hold a regular meeting Monday at 8 p.m. in the council room on the second floor of the Municipal Building. Council plans to take up the following presentations, reports, legislation and business, among other issues: Presentations Council Reports Committee Reports LEGISLATION A Resolution to Adopt the Maryland Municipal Public Works Officials’ Association (MMPWOA) Public Works Mutual Aid Agreement. The goal of the MMPWOA is to have all municipalities that have a Public Works Departments adopt and sign the agreement as part of their emergency management plan, according to City Council's agenda notes. It's almost Mother's Day, which means if you actually planned ahead you either have flowers headed to mom's door or are taking her out to a meal. Mulligan's Wins Readers' Choice for Best Mothers' Day Brunch

The restaurant located at the University of Maryland golf course clubhouse took the poll with a come-from-behind win.

Mulligan's Grill and Pub was the big winner in the most recent Readers' Choice poll for best Mothers' Day brunch, but don't bother trying for a reservation this Sunday— They're booked and space is maxed out at 225 people. "We have so many reservations our banquet room will be full," Unit Manager Dave Winbigler said, noting that patrons will also be eating in the dining room. He hopes this—and the Readers' Choice poll win—are signs of an upward swing at Mulligan's, located inside the clubhouse of the University of Maryland Golf Course. Greenbelt Farmers Market Announces 2012 Vendors

This year's market will have new vendors along with the old faithfuls.

The fifth season of the Greenbelt Farmers Market will see two new vendors join the team for its Mother's Day opening on May 13—located in the heart of historic Greenbelt, MD, on the west Roosevelt Center parking lot. And the two newbies are Michele's Granola and Palmyra Farm Cheese. Michele's Granola hails from Timonium, MD, and makes five varieties of granola that it states are prepared with all-natural and organic ingredients. It also states that it maintains a small batch process, uses no preservatives, and is certified vegan. Palmyra Farm Cheese is a local family farm located near Hagerstown, MD. Some 300 purebred registered dairy cows call the farm their home. Palmyra farm states that only whole milk produced by its cows is used to …
