Thirteen-year old Casper Alex is a young singer to keep an eye on.
Squeezed in between a flurry of tasks, I stopped by the New Deal Café Wednesday night to catch 13-year old Casper Alex woo Greenbelters with his version of Top 40 songs. He has a unique tone that could take him far. His voice and soul soared high above any momentary growing pains of a growing voice. So I'm featuring Casper this week in my blog as someone to keep an eye on. My cell phone video does not do him justice. The continuous concentration on his face juxtaposed against his ability to maintain "cool" was as much of a show as the music. He's starting out by putting a lot of heart into it. I'm give Casper two thumbs up and then some. How about you?

Hollywood rolls out its list of blockbusters with The Avengers.
A few sequels, one or two reboots, and Johnny Depp in weird costumes. The summer movie season is about to begin. MTV is calling 2012 a nerdy movie summer, and also one of the biggest. Says MTV: It's a crowded landscape to be sure; you'll want to spend your hard-earned theatergoing cash wisely if you want to weed out the fantastic, can't-miss movies from the [ugly], must-miss ones. Here's a few of the movies planned for the summer. Which ones excite you the most? Did we miss any? Tell us in the comments.

Musicians gather together at the New Deal Café to enjoy a Louisiana-style Cajun jam.
It's the fourth Wednesday at the New Deal Café, and that means time for the Cajun Music Jam at 7 p.m. Anyone who wants to can sit in on the jam, where Cajun music flies from fiddles, guitars, accordions, voices, harmonicas and more. The Cajun Music Jam welcomes musicians, singers and dancers to join in a night of spontaneous entertainment. Rooted in the balladic tradition of the French-speaking Acadians from Canada, it offers French music with themes of heartbreak, love and home, along with fast waltzes and two-step dances. “I came and saw people jamming, and I was like, ‘I need to get my instrument!’” said Rebecca Lemus after her first visit. “It was great. I didn’t know how hardcore this jam session was… Here I was, fudging the melody, …
