On Saturday, a 24-year old female College Park resident was walking along the 6000 block of Cherrywood Lane near Greenbelt Metro Drive in the early morning hours when she was approached and accosted by multiple suspects and pulled into a nearby wooded area, according to the Greenbelt Police Department.

The suspects sexually assaulted the woman over a period of time, and she was seriously injured during the attack, according to police. Police think it happened at around 4 a.m., but an exact time has not been established, according to Capt. Kemp.

Capt. Kemp said that afterwards, the victim summoned help from some pedestrians going down the street, who called police using a cell phone.

Greenbelt patrol officers, detectives, an evidence technician and a canine unit responded to the scene shortly after the call at about 5 a.m., according to police. The victim was transported to Prince George’s General Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not life threatening, according to police, and she has since been released from the hospital.

There were up to four suspects, who the victim described as African American males in their late teens or 20s, according to police. She described them all as having slim to medium builds and said some of the suspects were approximately 6 feet tall — she also said one of the suspects had cornrow-style hair, police reported.

Capt. Kemp said, “In my 27 years with the agency, I find this incident particularly disturbing. And we are certainly doing everything we can to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask that anyone with information contact its criminal investigations unit at (240) 542-2133.
