What new eatery would you like to see in the building that formerly housed Jasper's?

The restaurant formerly know as Jasper's, located at 7041 Greenbelt Rd. in Greenbelt's Greenway Shopping Center, has been vacant for well over a year.

This large, freestanding building is only a few miles from multiple residential areas and has plenty of parking and access to major roadways.

What eatery would you like to see fill the void left by Jasper's? A family friendly restaurant or a more upscale dining option? What's your vision for this vacant building? Tell Patch in the comments!

I would like to see some type of high quality seafood restaurant. Preferably not a typical chain restaurant. However, if it is a chain restaurant, something other than the typical Ruby Tuesday, TGIFridays, etc. Maybe a Carrabas?!?

Actually I am fairly certain it never reopened after the fire and that would make it three years sitting empty. Such a shame that prime restaurant real estate has remained unoccupied for so long.

Any family friendly restaurant would work well what with there no longer being a Jaspers or a Denny's. It is an ideal spot for an Italian or as was suggested a quality seafood restaurant.

A seafood restaurant would be nice but there would be competition with Joe's Crab Shack in Beltway Plaza. How about a nice steakhouse? Whichever restaurant moves in could really do well with the lunch trade if it were done right - there are so many offices in the area not to mention NASA Goddard just down the road.

While I would like to see a Carrabas or Macaroni Grill, I doubt the property will be utilized, in any way, for the foreseeable future. If you look at Greenway Center Mall itself, IMHO, is it is a "state of transition" with turnover either in some stores themselves or in store ownership. Under few circumstances can I see an expensive franchise and/or brand like Cheesecake Factory going into there.

There is also a significant parking problem, I think, due to the gym along with a perception that while not as "sketchy" as Beltway Plaza Mall, IMHO... that it is less safe, particularly in the evening than it ever has been before.

My prediction is that, sometime, in the next 3-5 years, it will have much turnover and a "renewal" of Greenway itself. I think we're just going to have to wait it out.

That is, unless, our City Council makes it very business friendly (taxes and liquor license) before any company even expresses interest. They should be "moving forward" on this and put the word out now that it will be very favorable to quality businesses seeking to move into Greenway.

As far as what I would like to see there, I'd love to see something like a nice Ethiopian or Vietnamese restaurant. Something that Greenbelt does not already have.

I seriously doubt either of those two cuisines would be successful in Greenway. Plus, it's too much of a financial flier for someone to put their life savings into such a place which has to have a very high square footage cost.

Also, there's already a WaPo and Washingtonian "cheap eats" in both those cuisines in Hyattsville and Beltsville.

Royal Jade could move there since they are looking for a new place in Greenbelt.

I guess Royal Jade is the choice based on a sign on the building. Was hoping for something different.

Yes. Royal Jade has updated their voicemail message. They are moving to the old Jasper's location. Call their number for updates.
