Following a dispute with her landlord, Maria Anna Cruz Lopez, 33, accidentally accelerated in reverse up the driveway of her Lewisdale home, killing her 8-year-old daughter and injuring four other children. Police believe this was an accident and so far Lopez has not been charged with a crime.
Girl Fatally Struck by CSX Train in Riverdale Park
A 17-year-old Bowie girl was hit and killed by a CSX train passing through Riverdale Park Wednesday evening. Investigators believe that she was unable to hear the approaching train, as she was wearing headphones at the time of the collision.
Roberts Says County Wants to Lure FBI Headquarters to BARC

The Laurel Council this week approved additional apartment units for the controversial Laurel Gardens redevelopment project. Despite objections for area residents, the developer now has preliminary approval to bring 114 units to the complex, up from the original 96.
Upper Marlboro Couple Charged with Harboring an Illegal Immigrant
Alfred Edwards, 74, and his wife Gloria, 60, pleaded guilty this week to harboring a Filipina national whom they brought into the country under false pretenses, according to the Department of Justice. They each facing up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
UMd., MTA Work Toward Campus Safety
The Purple Line may not discharge passengers past 10 p.m. on University of Maryland's campus, according to UMd. officials. MTA and the university are working toward an agreement that would secure the campus's borders and keep students safe, while still accommodating the planned Purple Line.
